Biography
Hometown: Istanbul, Turkey
Undergraduate Major: Business, Entrepreneurship & Organizations
Undergraduate Institution: Brown University
Where did you go to undergraduate school and what was your major?
I did my undergrad at Brown double majoring in BEO (Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations) and Political Science.
What aspects did you enjoy while completing your undergraduate degree?
I loved every aspect of being a Brown student. All of my professors have been incredibly engaging. I had the opportunity to take classes from various departments thanks to Brown's open curriculum before locking in my major. I've always been very interested in linguistics and had the chance to take Italian and German classes on top of BEO and Political Science courses. In addition to academics, Brown has a vibrant extracurricular life and social scene. I've been part of Fashion @ Brown since freshman year and started another fashion related organization called Rogue.
What led you to apply and choose PRIME?
My overall experience of being an undergrad at Brown was one of the primary factors that led me to pursue a masters degree at Brown. I wanted to continue on the business path as I started working in the marketing field after my undergrad and was hoping to get a little bit more of a non-traditional and interdisciplinary education which I found at PRIME.
How has your PRIME experience made a difference for you?
Outside of the classroom, PRIME definitely pushed me to be more open to networking, meeting other professionals, connecting with Brown alumni which helped me grow my network and expand my world in so many different ways.
What is your fondest memory of your time at Brown?
My fondest memory of the PRIME program has been the San Francisco trip, where PRIME organized an amazing 1-week experience for all its students to meet with venture capital firms, startups, big-tech companies such as Amazon and Google. We were able to visit these companies and meet so many Brown/PRIME alumni. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!
How did your PRIME project impact your career trajectory?
Before starting PRIME, I've been working at a marketing agency working with major fashion houses focusing on their digital media planning as well project management. My career trajectory continued at the same marketing agency post PRIME. I can easily say that PRIME made me a much better project manager and I received 2 promotions since my graduation.
What advice would you have for new PRIME students and PRIME graduates?
Engage in the classroom discussion. PRIME has the best professors that you can find who are so willing to share their knowledge, help you inside and outside the classroom. It's a privilege to learn from the faculty PRIME offers.
