Joseph D.
Where did you go to undergraduate school and what was your major?
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis and got a degree in Managerial Economics.
What aspects did you enjoy while completing your undergraduate degree?
I enjoyed the quantitative aspect of my undergraduate degree and the studying economic forces that drive companies to behave in the way they do.
What led you to apply and choose PRIME?
I applied to PRIME because I was looking for a Masters program because of the unique atmosphere of a program that is focused on entrepreneurship. I also wanted to study on the East Coast, I wanted a program that was in-resident and that I could complete in one year.
How has your PRIME experience made a difference for you?
PRIME allowed me to re-calibrate my career and focus on where I wanted to go for my long term future. PRIME gave me a deeper understanding of the business world and opened up a large network of professional contacts.
What is your fondest memory of your time at Brown?
My fondest memory of Brown would probably be the annual school dance. Secondly would be the early mornings attending my Philosophy elective in the Spring Semester.
What advice would you have for new PRIME students and PRIME graduates?
For new PRIME students I would say the program is what you make it. Enjoy your time at Brown as the 11 months goes by very quickly. For PRIME graduates I would just say to try to start looking for a position early and be open minded.
Did you pursue a startup after the program? If yes, tell us about it.
I have not, other than my continued individual real estate investments/holdings.
How did your PRIME project impact your career trajectory?
The PRIME project really gave me an in depth understanding on how to get a product to market and all the requirements and steps needed to get funding for a startup. It is really not for the faint of heart!
